Fall 2026 Peer Mentorship Positions
Roles for DSci Peer Mentors include Teaching Assistants, Learning Assistants, and Graders. Compensation is 1 or 2 credit hours of DATASCI 398R Peer Mentoring in Statistics, depending on the role.

We are seeking motivated students who have successfully completed DATASCI 100 to serve as peer mentors. Preference is given to those pursuing the Data Science minor. While completion of DATASCI (QTM) 150 and DATASCI (QTM) 200 is not required, it is strongly recommended.
All UTAs must be available to attend Friday labs in person, and all LAs must be available to lead weekly review sessions on weekends. Graders are not required to attend labs. UTAs will be enrolled in 1 credit, while LAs and Graders will be enrolled in 2 credits.

Responsibilities:
- TAs-Lab Attendance: Assisting lab instructor to ensure that accurate attendance is taken each week.
- Weekly Office Hours: Hold weekly office hours to help students with their lab homework/manual.
- Canvas Discussion Board: Regularly monitor and respond to student questions.
Expected Hours
- 3-4 hours per week
- Lab sections available: Fridays 8:30-9:20, 10:00-10:50, 11:30-12:20, 1:00-1:50
Qualifications
- Must have taken DATASCI 100 and received a grade of B+ or better
- Must be willing to work as a team! DATASCI 100 serves 450+ students a semester. The course instructors, graduate TAs, undergraduate learning assistants and undergraduate TAs all work together to serve students and ensure uniform teaching practices across sections

Responsibilities:
- Teaching Assistants: Instructors will provide instructions per course. Typical responsibilities include taking attendance, answering student questions in class or in weekly office hours.
- Graders: Assist instructors grading homework assignments, problem sets, and exams, depending on the needs of the class. Instructions and grading rubrics will be provided.
Expected Hours
- Teaching Assistants: 3-4 hours per week, class attendance may be required
- Graders: 4-6 hours per week, averaged across semester, class attendance usually not required
- Reliability is key for both roles!

- Must have taken course for which applying (or suitable substitute) and received a grade of B+ or better
