Engage and Recruit Current Students through Experiential Learning

We offer a variety of programming options for corporate, government, and non-profit partners through the DSci department and Emory’s Center for AI Learning (CAIL), offering:  

  • Applied solutions to real problems: contribute real data and research questions to receive student-driven analyses and insights 
  • Access to interdisciplinary talent: program options include students at all stages of undergraduate and graduate careers, at Emory and peer institutions in the Atlanta area  
  • Flexibility of partner commitment: Programs span from traditional partner supervision to full faculty supervision

  • Direct access to 𝔻Sci talent with targeted recruiting support 
  • Full project control: Partners define internship projects, duties, timelines, and supervision 
  • Flexible commitment: Internships can range from part-time to intensive engagements aligned with partner needs 
Example internships:  
  • Analytics Department, Nebo Agency, data visualizations, client-facing performance reports, data anomaly detection framework evaluation 
  • U.S. State Department, data analysis and research
  • High-quality, faculty-supported work: Projects guided by a dedicated faculty lead, ensuring rigor, structure, and quality outcomes. 
  • Capacity for complex projects: Interdisciplinary teams at the undergraduate or graduate level for large, multi-faceted problems. 
  • Actionable deliverables: Partners receive well-documented analyses, models, and insights, delivered through a white paper, code repository, and presentation.

  • Evaluating vertical versus horizontal prosecution’s impact on court system efficiency (DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office)  
  • Detecting Structural Damage of Homes using Satellite Imagery (Neighborhood Nexus) 
  • Federal Grant Assistance AI Agent (Invest Atlanta) 
  • Evaluating impact of changes in pricing schedules for distribution of demand over time (UPS) 
  • Dedicated project teams with faculty support: Engage with student teams committing full time, enabling deeper, more complex AI and data science projects. 
  • Low-cost, low-risk exploration: Pilot ideas, test methods, or explore datasets without a full internal build-out. 
  • Streamlined deliverables: Projects culminate in a poster, presentation, and documented results at showcase for partners.

Talent Pipeline

DSci students are well-rounded practitionerstrained in research design, statistical inference, machine learning techniques, and multi-modal communication. Skills_ Logos
  • 200+ graduates/year (undergraduate and masters’ students) 
  • 300+ students participate in experiential learning data projects/year 
  • 18 Member Industry and Alumni Advisory Board 
  • 26 faculty (with PhDs in statistics, computer science, business, economics, political science, philosophy, history, English, and more) 

In 2024, 575 undergraduate students were enrolled in Emory 𝔻Sci major and minor programs! All four of our degree programs equip students with quantitative skills and data analysis techniques while they explore disciplines in the natural sciences, social sciences, business, or humanities. Within the Data Science major, there are 20 interdisciplinary tracks students can select from (such as political science, psychology, neuroscience and behavioral biology, history, and more). We also offer three joint majors with Math (Applied Mathematics and Statistics), Business (BBA + DATASCI) and Political Science (Public Policy Analysis).

Our alumni community includes over 700 grads and grows by about 200 graduates every year. 𝔻Sci Alumni have gone on to graduate programs in a variety of disciplines and entered careers in business, non-profits, politics, healthcare, academia, and more!
